Minecraft Education Edition Brings the Game and Huge Amounts of Resources to The Classroom

Minecraft on Xbox. Minecraft in your hair. Minecraft in schools. It's everywhere. It's designed to teach children (and older) about everything from ancient history to carefully recreated places to programming with Redstone.

It's an extension of and buyout by Microsoft of the MinecraftEdu program that has been around since.  xrplay They've even made a trailer explaining all the ways it can and has helped:

It's a fantastic idea. I would have killed millions of dollars to get something similar to videogames or as exciting as Minecraft utilized as a tool for learning in schools, at any age. The key, as always, is to inspire people to learn so that they enjoy it and take it in.

I wouldn't expect Microsoft to give it away for free, but since the fact that all the students are likely to be hooked once they've spent a few minutes with it in class, it's not as if there are no upsides.

Libraries and museums will also have access to the data. There are tons of customized resources available and more are in the pipeline if they do well. If things continue on this path, two billion dollars looks like a lot of money.
